Some minor tweaks

Stut wrote this at 14:18

It’s been a while since we made any changes to DWW but we have had a few requests for the following modifications which are now live.

Better support for private accounts. From the account form you can now specify the default visibility for new entries so you no longer need to remember to change it every time you post something new.

Clearer visible distinction of private entries. This used to be done by making the whole entry italic but as several users pointed out this prevents you from using italics in the entry itself. This has been changed such that private entries have a subtle background colour applied.

Better printed layout. We now apply a slightly different style when you print out a page which hides the action icons, right column and several other elements to give a cleaner page.

The next task on our list is to complete the API. This will allow you to integrate DWW with internal and third-party systems. We are also on the lookout for people to create a few more site designs - if you’re interested please let us know.

I also want to say something about the people using DWW. As I write this we have 37 accounts of which all the active ones only contain private entries. While this is a little disappointing we’re extremely pleased with the feedback we’ve had and we’re planning a number of changes in line with the usage patterns we’re seeing including custom domain names which is currently the most requested feature.

Among other things we have people using the site to record meeting minutes, software changelogs, personal diaries and more. We’ll shortly be sending out a short survey to gather a bit more information on how you’re using DWW so please take a few minutes to fill that out and help us tailor the service to your needs.

Alpha to Beta

Time for an update. We’ve made some changes since the Alpha launch. As well as fixing some minor bugs, we’ve…

New template
Ok, so it’s still only got 2 options, but each new one is progress!

iCal import
This is the most requested feature from the alpha. At the moment it does not support recurring events, and the way it imports the description can be a bit suspect with some calendars, but we’ll improve this as we go.

The big news however is that we’re moving from alpha to beta. What does that mean? Well, primarily it means promotion. So far we’ve only told people we know about this service. As of tomorrow it will be making an appearance on several blogs and we’ll be doing our best to get it noticed.

I’m sure bugs will be found and fixed, servers will fall over and be replaced and stress will be increased. I’m told this is all part of the plan, so here’s to a successful beta!

      Welcome

      Welcome to the DidWhatWhen blog.

This is where we’ll keep you informed about what’s going on with DidWhatWhen and hopefully get some feedback.

The current status is that the service is ready for some alpha testers. Numbers will be severly limited so we can keep it managable, but if you’re interested please go to the DidWhatWhen website and signup.
